It's been awhile. I figure it's time for a small (somewhat random) update.

Saint Charles was pretty awesome and we had a fantastic time at the concert. We also had a great time at Medieval Times in Schaumburg. I didn't want to go home. :)

I managed to gather the entire collection of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic toys from McDonald's. I wasn't able to get Rarity during the promotion (they never seemed to have her) and had resigned myself to only having a partial collection, but my fiance surprised me by ordering her from somewhere. My desk is 20% cooler now.

My fiance and I recently joined a local Celtic/Viking reenactment group. I've never done reenactment before, but my inner history nerd is loving every minute of it. The first event is going to be this summer, so I hope to be ready by then.

Speaking of my fiance, I really should find another way to refer to him on here. Hmm.

I went to an emergency dentist today for some jaw pain and swelling that I've had all week. They couldn't do much for me since I can't open my mouth all the way, but I did manage to get some antibiotics and prescription ibuprofen and Tylenol. I'm supposed to go back in a week or so as an emergency patient, but I honestly don't think I'll be able to do that because of transportation issues. I have a regular appointment set up for the beginning of June, though, so I'll probably wait until then (assuming the prescriptions work).

My Walk to Rivendell has been on hold since we got back from Saint Charles. Life's gotten in the way, so I haven't been able to keep up my normal schedule. I'm also changing up my workouts a bit and the new stuff I'm doing doesn't translate to mileage very well. We'll see what happens.

I think that about covers it for now.

We finally decided on a place to have our wedding. It only took a few years to figure it out. :)

We're having it next May at the Somewhere in Time gazebo on Mackinac Island, a touristy-type island in Lake Huron. At least, that's our first choice. If we can't get that specific gazebo, we'll likely have it at one of the hotel gardens, since they're just as pretty. :)

Since that's been somewhat settled, I've been working even harder toward my fitness goals. I want to actually feel like a pretty bride instead of being so uncomfortable in my own skin. So, working harder it is!

I updated the tickers on my profile page today. I'm showing a little bit of progress, which has me feeling a bit more confident about it all. According to the Walk to Rivendell chart, my mileage puts me nearly to Farmer Maggot's fields; hopefully I'll reach them by tomorrow.

Only 400 more miles to go!

My first week of walking was relatively successful, I suppose. Due to appointments and such, I was only able to commit three days last week, for a total of 3.75 miles. I know it's a bit pathetic, but I'm also taking this Rivendell walk as an opportunity to improve my mile time, and eventually stretch into a 5k. I didn't think to remember my exact mile times for last week, but I do know they were all at the 30-minute mark (so slow).

I just finished another mile a few minutes ago, running about a quarter of it (broken into chunks). It may sound silly, but it's a huge improvement for me, since I wasn't even able to run a complete mile in high school. My time for today was 25:34, so yay for me. Unfortunately, because of the holidays, I'll only be able to walk/run until Wednesday. At least I'll be able to get back into the swing of things next week.

So, according to the Walk to Rivendell mileage chart, I am currently closing in on Tookland (the 5-mile mark). Yay, progress.

Everything finally settled down enough for me to finally recommit to my Rivendell walk. I decided to just start over because it had been quite awhile since I had last walked, and I hadn't gone that far anyway. Rather than set another start date, I just went ahead and did the first mile this morning. No more medical stuff in my way, and no more excuses. I'm doing it this time, and that's that.

In other news, I finally have a small crafting space for myself to work on things. I've had to use random tables and counter tops, but now I've finally got a dedicated table set up in my fiance's computer room. I even have my own little crappy work chair, so yay. My only complaint is that it gets a bit cold in there in the evenings, but who cares? Because work space!

We also had our first snow of the season last week. I think it was Thursday or Friday evening, but I'm not sure. Either way, it's all gone now, but it'll be back soon. It's Michigan... snow never truly goes away.

We've been moving furniture and de-cluttering the house the past few days. It's been slow going, but at least it's been steady; the treadmill has been moved out of temporary storage, the old couch and entertainment center are ready to be loaded up for Goodwill later this week, and everything else has been falling into place. With any luck, we'll be done by the weekend and I'll finally have some space to work on my craft projects.

Now that the treadmill's been moved, I've decided to restart my Walk to Rivendell challenge. I'm starting completely fresh and will only be counting the miles I put in on the treadmill; I want this to be separate from any other daily exercises. I don't have a specific goal date in mind... maybe I'll just see how long it takes me to do it first.

I've been thinking about opening up an Etsy store in the near future. I want to get some feedback from friends and family first, but I've been thinking a lot about it lately, and I really want to have my own business. I'm not looking to make huge amounts of money... maybe just enough to supplement my crafts, but still... it would give me something to do during the day, at least. I do understand that it's going to take a lot of work, but I'm okay with that.

I just hope I don't talk myself out of it.

I was a bucket of nerves, but I went to my appointment this morning. The doctor was pretty nice and talked me through some of the things that could be causing my issues. He said that there's a chance I could be anemic, but I had to get blood drawn for testing. I also have to go back next week to get a pelvic ultrasound (which I'm not looking forward to), with another appointment to go over all of my results on the 14th of October. Whew.

Because of all this going on, as well as other things, I've had to put my Walk to Rivendell challenge on hold; it's disappointing, but I'm hoping I can pick it up again in the next week or two. I could just "cheat" and count my normal walking, but I'd like to keep this as a separate exercise.

On a somewhat better note, I bought more craft supplies online the other day. I ended up getting more perler beads from one store, and a bunch of random supplies that were on sale from Joann's site. I also got free shipping on my Joann order, so that was awesome. The day after I ordered, I got a coupon in my e-mail for free shipping on another order, so I may have to find something to use that on. So many things to play with~

I started the Walk to Rivendell today!

I managed to get 1.42 miles out this morning by walking the trail between my house and town (there and back). I know it's not a lot in the grand scheme of things, but it's a start. Besides, my main goal today was to try out the pedometer on my iPod and see if the GPS tracker on my phone worked (and was accurate).

According to the pathway mileage and milestones, I'm between the gate and hedgerows near Bag End.

If I can find a good map, I plan on posting my full progress once a week (probably on Sundays). I'd like to see how far along the Fellowship's path I've gone.

While browsing interests and communities, I came across [community profile] lotr_walk, which led me to Walk to Rivendell. It doesn't look like either place is updating anymore, but I'm still definitely interested in doing this. I've been meaning to start walking/running again, and this just helps feed my geekery. Ideally, I'd love to do the whole thing, but we'll see about that.

Part of me thinks that I should wait until September 23 (the day Frodo and Sam left for their journey), but I really don't want to put this off because I have a bad habit of planning things and not doing them. So, for my sake, I'm going to start out tomorrow morning with the walk from Hobbiton to Rivendell - a total of 458 miles.

I should see if I can find an interactive-ish map of Middle-earth. I'd like to see how far I've gone.
